This service and safe space (the only one in the area) targets all young people aged 16-25, especially those on the fringes of society and unable to gain support elsewhere. Kings Cross continues to be a magnet for young people, where the opportunity for criminal activity and the ready access to alcohol, drugs and the sex industry, can put them at great risk.
Services include:
Youth Space/Drop In (6 days a week) includes; a safe space/recreation space, counseling/referral rooms, music rooms, bathroom and laundry facilities and a kitchen (which serves breakfast Monday to Friday).
Street Walks covering the Kings Cross and Green Park areas, street walks ensure early intervention and immediate crisis referrals (including accommodation and medical referrals)
Outreach; support for youth in courts, hospitals, jails and police stations. Such support ensures young people receive fair and equitable treatment within the legal and medical systems.
Breakfast Program; Wayside Youth's breakfast program allows young people to begin the day with a nutritious meal, and access to shower and laundry facilities, providing them the opportunity to adequately prepare for their day. The breakfast program also allows Wayside Youth to provide follow-up support to those young people with whom youth workers had contact during the previous evening's street walk.
