Wayside Sounds is a supervised studio space within Wayside Youth where young people can express themselves creatively through music. The objective of the project is to:
The overall vision for Wayside Youth's music program includes not only the opportunity for young people to express themselves through music and improve inherent talents but also to complete individual projects, achieve goals and ultimately record music.
Wayside Sounds is also available for hire to the wider community – this means you!
The studio is fully sound-proofed and acoustically treated and can be used for live tracking, mixing, overdubs or rehearsals.
Within our small complex we have a live room (3 x 4m), a vocal/amp isolation booth (2 x 1.5m), and a control room.
The studio is powered by Digidesign Pro Tools and Fostex monitor speakers. We also have a range of microphones, outboard gear and plugins to make sure every project has a professional edge.
There is an assortment of entry level instruments for use as well, including a basic drumkit, guitars and an electric piano.
Rehearsals – $7.50 an hour (use of live room and instruments, no access to control room)
Recording and Mixing – $15 an hour (full use of live and control room, instruments and microphones)
Exemptions to these rates can be prearranged for ‘Friends of the Wayside’, including visitors, staff and volunteers, and where a reasonable basis for an exemption has been discussed with Wayside staff.
